  • * When the air outside is dry and cooler than the air inside hang a damp sheet in an open window (make sure A/C is off)
  • * Close your curtains and blinds during sunny periods
  • * Avoid Hot Yoga studios ๐Ÿ˜‰
  • * Give your oven a summer vacation, use the BBQ, microwave or stovetop
  • * Keep as many lights off as possible, they produce heat
  • * Fill a cotton sock with rice, tie the sock with twine, and freeze it. Place between the sheets at night
  • * Don’t go in hot tubs ๐Ÿ˜‰
  • * Buy a chillow – cools down your pillow
  • * Give your dryer a break, hang clothes, towels , sheets etc. on a clothesline or in an open window (make sure A/C is off)

  • * Put smooth light white slip covers over anything in your house that is fuzzy (ex. Corduroy pillow)
  • * Eat light foods – The easier to digest the less your body has to spend in energy
  • * Hydrate – Drink lots of fluids but avoid these ones – alcohol, caffeine, and drinks with lots of sugar
  • * Eating spicy foods can cool you down. Chili peppers contain capsaicin which helps us to perspire more readily
  • * Use mint – mint refreshes the skin and leaves cooling sensation, food, drinks, lotions, soap
  • * Drink Chrysanthemum Tea
  • * Try Black Cohosh – may help regulate body heat
  • * Avoid bouncy castles ๐Ÿ˜‰
  • * Lose the shoes – the sweat on your feet cools the blood in your feet, which sends this to other parts of the body
  • * Place your feet in a bowl of water
  • * Put some cold water or ice on your wrists, same concept as previously mentioned
  • * Lie down on the floor – warm air rises
  • * Sit still – do not try fanning yourself, causes more heating than cooling
  • * Ceiling fans are the best for controlling the temperature –ย  control the rise ofย  hot and cold air
  • * Install a whole-house fan
  • * Install attic vents
  • * Do not roast marshmallows indoors ๐Ÿ˜‰
  • * Replace or clean the filters in to provide your central air peak efficiency
  • * Tune up your A/C and Furnace to make sure they are running energy efficient and clean
  • * If you have a basement and A/C make sure you have a cold air return
  • * Place a bowl of ice in front of or behind a fan and enjoy the cool breeze
  • * Insulate your hose to avoid cool temperatures from escaping
  • * If you can, use light coloured roofing
  • * Close the damper on your fireplace
  • * Don’t switch your furnace to the “Heat On” position ๐Ÿ˜‰
  • * Keep windows and doors shut as much as possible

  • * If hotter inside than outside in the evening, place fan in window to blow hot air out

  • * Run your A/C and fan simultaneously – A/C removes humidity, fan circulates cool air
  • * Turn on the vent in the bathroom, it helps moisture escape
  • * Avoid Sauna’s ๐Ÿ˜‰
  • * Turn off your unnecessary electronics, Microwave, Computer, TV, DVD, Clocks, Printers etc.
  • * If you have to use a notebook or have the TV on, try aiming a fan on the heated motor area
  • * Reading about the cold can take your mind off the heat, psychiatrists say – So read this blog over and over again. If it doesn’t work then call us for service on your A/C or to install a new A/C immediately.
