Honeywell Lyric Thermostat to compete with Nest!
June 27, 2014
Honeywell has stepped up there game and is putting an even bigger push on technology in competition with the Nest Thermostat. The thermostat is available through HVAC contractors today, but won’t be seen in stores until August.
The biggest advance is the addition of geofencing. Geofencing is defined as “a location-based service that sends messages to smartphone users who enter a defined geographic area. Some companies send promotions to customers’ smartphones when they enter a store, mall or neighborhood.” In this case the Honeywell Lyric thermostat will track/search your location when you are on route home and at a certain point will trigger the thermostat. This will then call for heat or cool air from your furnace or air conditioner to regulate to the temperature set on the thermostat. When you arrive in your home, the comfort is at a perfect temperature and you have been saving energy since you’ve been gone.
There are two different geofence settings – there’s a 7 mile radius for suburban settings in which you’ll likely be farther from home, and a 500 foot setting that’ll likely be more appropriate for city dwellers. Multiple devices from different household members can be added to your account.
